Winding down, winding up

The past week-and-a-half has been a much-needed respite from the grindstone that is junior year. Third quarter left me drained and I practically crawled my way into spring break.

AP Calculus was a good class, and will continue to be so in the coming months. Although I couldn’t help dozing during the period, I managed a satisfactory grade and am proud of what I’ve learned so far. Luckily, I was able to recover after being eight days behind at one point. I made up a quiz during spring break.

French 3 was a blissful 86 minutes  before the dreaded APUSH. Equipped with my laptop, I thoroughly abused the new schoolwide wireless Internet by Skyping friends across the hall. Fortunately, Madame never noticed my obvious grins at the computer screen. Nevertheless, I learned a great deal in French last term. The amount of work I put into the class is not indicative of how much I really do appreciate the language and culture.

“Advanced Placement” United States History has been slain. By the last day of that horrid class, and likely much earlier than that, I had no doubt that APUSH was the worst class to be offered at Wayzata High School. Everything from the textbook to the teacher was miserable. The class itself was a time-leech. The tests were poorly constructed and the lectures were awful. The teacher’s sugar-coated personality did nothing to mask the lameness of that sorry excuse for an AP class. Any initial excitement I had in learning about United States history was promptly crushed by the worthlessness of the curriculum. Good riddance.

AP Chemistry, my most work-intensive course for the past three terms, has also come to a glorious end. I did much better on the final exam than I expected and eventually made up the countless quizzes and tests that I had missed due to the science fair. Overall, it was an excellent class and not the simplistic review of Chemistry X that I expected it to be. I learned a surprising amount of new material.

Today’s the last day of spring break, and tomorrow marks the beginning of the end of junior year. Bring it on!

Well, what do you think?
